Our mission is to ensure that all Canadians have the historical and civic knowledge they need to participate in society as active and informed citizens.

The Dominion Institute was founded in 1997 by a group of young people concerned about the decline of history as a core subject in schools and by the public perception of the country's past as academic and boring.

Over the past six years, the Dominion Institute has focused its efforts on conducting original research into Canadians' knowledge of the country's past and building innovative programs - such as The Memory Project - that broaden appreciation of the richness and complexity of the Canadian story.

In addition to The Memory Project, The Dominion Institute operates an award-winning website www.greatquestions.com, where students can take part in an annual $2000 history essay competition.
